Listen to a demo version of "Real Estate," the sixth song on Scenes from an Icelandic Novel.

Real Estate

About Reverend Eiulv. He's walking to the first day of the trial, bargaining with God, trying to erase the crimes that have been committed.

This is the sound of the unknowing
Where are you going? Who is on your side?
To complete the task you inherited
Your soul and body need to be well fed
But the snow makes you doubt your stride

Walking in circles 'neath the frozen light
Doesn't feel right, you're too far from home
You believe the path lies straight ahead
Yet you're so uncertain of where you tread
This is the sound of being alone

Here in the dark cold of the season
Clutching to reason, but longing for vice
In this wind-torn space between rock and sea
Where everything falls without difficulty
This is the sound of spike on ice

This is the sound of one good appeal
It all seems too real for one soul to stand
Your faith in perception has gone astray
So you close your eyes and try to feel your way
Searching for comfort, for a place to land

But truth and lies aren't evident
The borders blur at your expense
When your whole world's left to the hands of fate
Do you barter with life like it's real estate?
